On 27th Nov, the world’s largest span steel box arch bridge with thrust and also the world’s ninth largest span steel box arch bridge-Guantang Bridge in Liuzhou, Guangxi was opened to the public. China Railway Baoji Bridge Group participated in its construction.
The main bridge of Liuzhou Guantang Bridge, the world’s “largest thrust” steel box arch bridge, is a half-through basket-type steel box arch bridge with thrust, and it has no piers in the water. Its span is 457 meters, net arrowheight is 100 meters. The bridge deck is connected to the two arch abutments above through 148 slings, and each of the arch abutments is supposed to bear a horizontal thrust amounting to 17,500 tons. CRBBG began to take part in the construction of the bridge on 13th Feb, 2017, and undertook the production and installation works of steel box arch, which is of the highest technological difficulty, processing difficulty and erection difficulty.
Steel arch ribs of Liuzhou Guantang Bridge are in the shape of spatial box with total weight being over 6,000 tons. Production of segments, accuracy of installation and geometry control are the key works of this engineering. In order to achieve successful closure, CRBBG employed a construction pattern of “joining up at low position and lifting up as a whole”, designed a special construction plan having more than 300 pages and struggled to work for 15 continuous days and nights. In the process of lifting arch segments, CRBBG set three world’s No. 1 records in terms of overall lifting height, overall lifting weight and span of lifting arch rib.
It is said that, Liuzhou Guantang Bridge is the 5th bridge that CRHIC has constructed for Liuzhou, and also the 21st bridge over the Liujiang River. It has greatly shortened the length from Hedongbei district to Liudong New District in Liuzhou, which will contribute to the socio-economic development of Liuzhou.
