“China Solution”

Deployed for Türkiye’s Water Conservancy and Hydropower Project

On April 13, the small diameter earth pressure balance shield machine developed by China Railway Equipment passed acceptance and rolled off the production line in Zhengzhou of China. As the first shield equipment developed by China Railway Equipment for export to Türkiye in the water conservancy and hydropower sector, it delivers a “China Solution” for local water conservancy and hydropower construction. 

For the water conservancy hydropower tunnel project in Türkiye, the shield driven tunnel totals 9.5 kilometres in length with a maximum burial depth of 410 metres. The project is confronted with complex geological conditions including long distance rock stratum excavation, poor rock integrity and multiple fault fracture zones, which pose stringent requirements for equipment wear resistance. To effectively address core challenges such as long driving distance and large burial depth, the design team custom built an earth pressure balance shield machine with a tunnelling diameter of 5.37 metres, delivering solid equipment support for efficient long distance tunnelling of the project.

As a benchmark enterprise in China’s high end equipment manufacturing industry, China Railway Equipment’s self developed shield machine is exported to Türkiye once again. This move not only expands overseas application scenarios for domestically produced shield machines but also demonstrates the robust strength of “China engineered innovation”, building a new bridge for cooperation between Chinese equipment and overseas water conservancy projects.
