On February 12, the last segment of the arch rib was accurately hoisted in place, marking the successful closure of Science and Technology City Fujiang Bridge in Mianyang, Sichuan Province. China Railway Jiujiang Bridge Engineering Co., Ltd. affiliated to CRHIC participated the construction of the bridge. Being 603 meters long, the main bridge is designed as a through steel box girder x-arch bridge, with main span of 255 meters and main arch of 62 meters high. It adopts two-way six-lane design, flanked by non-motor vehicle lane and sidewalk.
The bridge's steel structure amounts to 84 sections, including 34 sections of steel box girders and 50 sections of arch ribs. It is constructed by the methods of single-side onshore assembly and integral incremental launching of girder with the arch. The single span weight (more than 14,000 tons) and horizontal distance (293 meters) of the incremental launching with the arch set a new national record for bridge construction of its kind. The project has encountered the following construction difficulties: the structure is special-shaped as the arch rib adopts steel box arch (octagonal section) and the main arch is inclined inward by 70 degrees; the structure undertakes complex forces; it is difficult to assemble and implement linear control of arch ribs; the member bar is overweight and ultra-wide; it is difficult to transport and risky to hoist due to strong wind on both sides of Fujiang River.
