Ma'anshan Highway-Railway Yangtze River Bridge is a control project of the Chaohu-Ma'anshan Intercity Railway, with steel girder being 3,248 meters long. It is designed as a three-tower and two-span bridge, with single span of 1,120 meters, continuous two-span of 2,240 meters and the middle tower of 345 meters high (equivalent to the height of a 115-floor building). The upper level is a two-way six-lane municipal road, with designed speed of 80km/h; the lower level is a four-track railway, two of which are intercity railway lines with designed speed of 250km/h, and the other two are reserved railway lines with designed speed of 200km/h. China Railway Jiujiang Bridge Engineering Co., Ltd. mainly undertakes the fabrication and installation of approximately 15,000 tons of steel towers for the Z3 side tower and Z4 middle tower, as well as the fabrication and installation of about 35,000 tons of steel girders for auxiliary branch steel girders and accessories. Moreover, China Railway Shanhaiguan Bridge Group Co., Ltd. and China Railway Baoji Bridge Group Co., Ltd. under CRHIC also undertake the processing and manufacturing of steel towers, steel girders and auxiliary structures of the bridge.
The main towers of the bridge are all reinforced concrete structures. The two side towers are in the shape of the letter 'I' in the longitudinal direction, and the middle tower is in the shape of the letter 'A' in the longitudinal direction. The Z3 steel tower passing the acceptance inspection has a total height of 23.5 meters and a weight of about 1,880 tons. It is composed of five single sections, with a single section weighing 495 tons. The steel tower requires high manufacturing accuracy, as it is a tetradecagon structure with large and changing cross section, its outer wall plates apply penetration welding inside and outside, and the stiffening rib plates are bolted; high altitude welding and field assembly also have high manufacturing accuracy requirements due to its large volume and complex structure.
