On September 25, 2017, the first Service-Oriented Manufacturing Conference of China was held in Guangzhou. China Railway Engineering Equipment Group was listed as the first group of "Model Enterprises of Service-Oriented Manufacturing", and was granted the qualification.

Service-oriented manufacturing is a new form of industry integrating manufacturing and services, and is the direction for manufacturing to transform and upgrade. Since the establishment, China Railway Engineering Equipment Group has been trying to achieve "Four Transformations", namely, transforming from driven by key elements to driven by innovation, transforming from traditional product structure to information and service-oriented product structure, transforming from production-oriented manufacturing to service-oriented manufacturing, and transforming from industrial support to industrial guidance", and has established the view of product structure that "equipment is tool and services are products" based on the "Four Transformation." Its being selected into the first group of "National Model Enterprises of Service-Oriented Manufacturing" is important for China Railway Engineering Equipment Group to develop its production services, speed up the integration and development of production services and manufacturing, and strategically transform from "product-oriented" to "service-centered".

It is reported that to implement "Made in China 2025" and grasp the opportunities brought about by the new round of technical reform and industrial revolution, The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology started to select the first group of models of service-oriented manufacturing in January this year. It would select a group of featured manufacturing enterprises as model enterprises mainly from supply chain management, product full life-cycle management, general integration and general contracting services, information value-added services and other fields.
